Dec. 5-6, 2024, the annual IPCITI conference took place at the University of Manchester

From December 5 to 6, 2024, the annual International Postgraduate Conference in Translation and Interpreting (IPCITI 2024) took place at the University of Manchester.

Three members of the Socotrans team took the opportunity to connect and discuss with fellow young researchers and shared insights from their own dissertation projects: Anna Sourdille („Queers Only? Peer Interpreters in LGBTIQ+ Refugee Aid“), Antonia Baumann („An Ergonomic Approach to Feedback in the Translation Industry“) and Daniela Schlager („Between freedom and survival: Non-literary translators’ goals and agency“).

A highlight of the conference was the keynote by Prof. Dorothy Kenny, titled Strange Bedfellows: Machines and Literary Translation. In her talk, Prof. Kenny examined the interplay between technology and literary translation while sharing her personal academic journey. She reflected on the evolution of research methods, tracing the progression from “digitisation” to “digitalisation” and now to “digital transformation.” Additionally, she explored why artificial intelligence is increasingly integrated into translation practices.
